Coming Home to Family Sessions
My heart behind stepping back in
I haven’t photographed families in a while and it’s not because I stopped loving it.
For a long time, I was trying to be everywhere for everyone. I was juggling too much, saying yes too often, and spreading myself too thin. And the truth is, I could feel the quality of my service slipping. I didn’t want to just do the job, I wanted to do it well. With heart. With presence. With intention.

So I took a step back. I rebuilt my systems. I learned how to be more efficient and how to serve people in a way that honors both of us. And now, stepping back into family sessions feels… like home.
There are so many reasons I love photographing families, but maybe the biggest one is that I get to grow with them. I’ve had clients who I met before they were even engaged. I photographed their proposals, their weddings… and then their babies, and the life that followed. It’s not just pictures. It’s people. Real people who invite me into their most sacred moments, joyful and heartbreaking alike. That trust is everything to me.

So when Kelly invited me to her family farm for their session, it felt so right. These are the kinds of sessions I dream of; ones that are deeply personal and meaningful to the family. The kids felt totally at ease just being themselves, running around and exploring the place they know by heart. And that’s the kind of magic you can’t fake.

The light that evening was golden. Truly the stuff of dreams. (And if you’re wondering whether keeping your kids up for golden hour is worth it—yes. A hundred times yes. That glow? It changes everything. If you can swing it, do it.)

I also have to say, Kelly’s outfit choice made me so happy. The kids were dressed in soft, neutral tones, and Kelly wore this stunning purple dress that gave the whole gallery a pop of colour in the best way. It made her stand out just a little. Moms should stand out. They’re the glue. The planners. The packers. The ones making sure everyone gets dressed and out the door. They deserve to shine, too.

What I loved most about this session was how relaxed it felt. There was no pressure. No forced poses. Just a family being themselves, right at home, surrounded by love and light and legacy.

The way your life looks right now is worth documenting. These are the memories your kids will hold onto. The ones you’ll look back on when they’re grown.
And I’d be honoured to help you capture them.
